The Immaculate Conception

Perpetual Remembrance Card 7
“The Immaculate Conception”, painting by Bartolome Esteban Murillo, c. 1660.

“The Immaculate Conception” depicts Mary who through God's grace was conceived free of original sin, as the pure vessel for Christ’s birth. Hands clasped in prayer, Mary is shown (from the New Testament vision of Saint John the Evangelist, Revelation 12:1)  “a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet.”
