Mary, the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, carries the burden of overwhelming grief, having witnessed the martyrdom, crucifixion, and death of her Son. In this depiction, she mercifully takes on the burdens of all who suffer.
Set against a cream-colored background which suggests a heavenly realm, Mary is the embodiment of compassion, acting as our intercessor with Christ.
