Michelangelo’s Pieta (in English: The Pity) is an expression of eternal grief carved in stone, depicting the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion. Here we remember Jesus at his death, but we are also reminded of the Resurrection and of the promise of eternal life.
